Classic Game Room reviews CATHERINE on Playstation 3 (and Xbox 360) from Atlus, a bizarre puzzle game where Fatal Attraction meets Climbing for Dollars (Running Man anyone?)!!! From the team that brought you Persona comes Catherine, a mystery, thriller mixed with a Japanese horror movie, anime and strategic puzzle game where your character climbs to save his life! Vincent is having strange dreams that he can't remember and his girlfriend is pressuring him to get married... oh and she's pregnant. Maybe Vincent shouldn't be cheating on Katherine with Catherine, a psycho hottie that he meets in the bar. Catherine packs a solid story, multiple endings and puzzle gameplay that can be enjoyed numerous times. If you dig games like Persona and the Shin Megami Tensei series as well as puzzle thinking games then Catherine is for you (the non-crazy one maybe). This CGR video review of Catherine has gameplay from the PS3 Playstation 3 version of Catherine, also available for Xbox 360 from Atlus USA.

game | 10 unfairest bosses in gaming

10 unfairest bosses in gaming

Not all video game bosses are made equally. Some bosses are hard because they are simply unfair. We are here today to name and shame the most annoyingly cheap boss battles that exist in games. From the many overpowered fighting game bosses to the most blatantly unfair boss in Dark Souls. Here are the 10 unfairest bosses in gaming!Thumbnail artwork by EnigaSystem http:www.artstation.comartistenigmasystemGalactus - Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Get ready to see a lot of fighting games on this list. Somehow the developers of these games really seem to like cheap boss battles. Galactus, the cosmic, planet-eating being, is like a Greatest Hits of unfair fighting game bosses. He's huge in size, has a non-stop laser beam barrage and massively confusing attacks. Capra Demon - Dark Souls The Dark Souls series is known for being tough, but fair… Except for the Capra Demon from the original Dark Souls. Everything about the battle is intended to cheat the player out of a victory, and the developers should be ashamed for its inclusion. What makes the Capra Demon such a hard battle is not so much the demon itself, but rather the area that you fight it in. Shao Kahn - Mortal Kombat 2 Shao Kahn has ruined the lives of arcade goers and console owners for decades. Fans of Mortal Kombat expect a certain level of brutality but the merciless beatings this guy delivers are out of this world. It’s almost as if he knows your exact button inputs even before you enter them. Pretty much the only time you can attack Shao Kahn is when he's taunting you. TDeviljho - Monster Hunter 3 The Monster Hunter series is filled with incredible boss battles. It also has its share of unfair ones, that abuse the lengthy animations of the player. There is one monster that stands out from the rest in terms of unfairness. Its name is Deviljho, and he’s big, fast, and strong. You encounter him in High Rank missions, where he will pose a challenge to the most experienced team of Hunters. Azazel - Tekken 6 Azazel is a fire-breathing crystal dragon that's as tall as the screen in Tekken 6. He has disgusting combo damage with his stomps, unpredictable animations, and immaculate defenses. His enormous size covers the majority of your viewing angle at any given time which is very annoying.Gill - Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Gill is the horribly unfair final boss of Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. His normal attacks cause block damage and his stuns last much longer than yours. His super arts are particularly broken and cause obscene amounts of damage. The guy moves like lightning. Death Egg Zone - Sonic 2 Sonic 2 is a pretty short and easy game. However there is one frustratingly difficult moment and it happens during the final level. Once you reach the Death Egg Zone, you are thrust into two consecutive boss battles. The first is against Metal Sonic. The second is against Dr. Robotnik’s Giant Mech. Seth - Street Fighter IV You think the developers would have learned from the unfair boss in Street Fighter 3. However Seth in Street Fighter IV is just as cheap. His moveset is made up entirely of enhanced versions of the best attacks from other characters. It seems that Seth was intentionally designed to be as frustrating as possible. Dark Souls - Bed Of Chaos The second unfair boss fight in Dark Souls comes in the form of Bed of Chaos. Every challenge in Dark Souls is surmountable on the first try if you give it enough consideration, but not this one. Each time you destroy one of the two anchors placed on either side of the boss, the floor will crumble away. This happens with zero indication as to where or when that will happen. Parace L'Sia - Arcana Hearts 3 This major boss character in the Arcana Heart series is beyond cheap. Her moves are absolute overkill and she so many other unfair advantages. She is fast as lightning, teleports around the arena and combos your health away. She also generates her health the entire fight and has very overpowered special moves. What is the most unfair boss you’ve ever fought? game | 10 worst prologues in gaming

10 worst prologues in gaming

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. The games on this list completely messed up in this department. Don’t get us wrong they’re all amazing games but they do a horrible job of conveying that when you first start them up. Here are the 10 worst prologues in gaming!1. The Hospital - Metal Gear Solid V Metal Gear Solid V is an amazing open world game that starts off at a crawling pace. You literally crawl around for 45 minutes in a hospital while scripted events pop off around you. This incredibly slow start may turn off a lot of gamers that were excited about the open world focus of Metal Gear Solid 5. 2. Prologue - The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess We know that most Zelda games take a long time to get going but the opening sequence of Twilight Princess is just ridiculous. It just goes on and on, and it takes forever before you’re allowed to run around on your own.3. Prologue - Heavy Rain The introduction to Heavy Rain does an excellent job of capturing some of the inescapable banality of everyday life. You get out of bed. Go to the toilet. Have a shower. It’s like you’re playing the Sims instead of an interactive crime drama. We can respect that the developers are setting the stage and trying to make you care for the characters before something awful happens to them.4. Tutorial - Driver There are a lot of gamers out there that never got past the tutorial in Driver on the original Playstation. The notoriously difficult opening level makes you pull of a list of manoeuvres inside a car park. The game doesn’t explain anything and you are simply expected to be an awesome driver from the get go. 5. Ruins - Undertale How many of you picked up Undertale because of all the good reviews it got? And how many of you were completely bored after just a few minutes of playing? The extremely long opening level is a major turnoff in this otherwise excellent game. You have to complete a load of simple puzzles in a dull purple area called the Ruins. 6. Intro Sequence - Okami Do you hate reading chunks upon chunks of story text? Then you definitely won’t like the beginning of Okami. This beautiful action adventure starts out with a lot of unskippable segments of story you have to button through. When you are finally able to play the game it still holds your hand for the first few hours. The developers insist on explaining every little mechanic to you. It’s an incredibly slow burn but when the game finally does open up it delivers one of the best experiences in recent years. 7. Prologue - Kingdom Hearts 2 The prologue to Kingdom Hearts 2 is so incredibly long and boring it makes us dread playing this otherwise awesome game. The four hour long introduction to every system is spread out over six ingame days. Going through all the different days in the same city is as much fun as watching paint dry. It’s like when your parents tell you that you're going to Disney World. But when you get into the car they decide to stop in Gettysburg and Washington D.C. for days of museum tours first. When are we finally going to see Mickey mom?!8. Prologue - Assassin's Creed III Assassin's Creed III is another textbook example of boring prologues in gaming. The introductory portions of this game are downright awful. It took us approximately five hours to move through Haytham's storyline until we were finally allowed to play as adult Connor. Playing him as a kid in the earlier parts of the game also felt like a complete waste of time. 9. Prologue - Final Fantasy XIII Guys, really... give Final Fantasy XIII twenty hours and then it will be good. That’s a ridiculous statement some hardcore fans were making only a couple of years ago. That hefty 20 hour chunk plays a lot like the world's longest tutorial set in one big corridor. The first 8 chapters are incredibly linear and full of explanation about all the different systems that are in the game. This is only broken up by lots and lots of cutscenes. Just think that in those same 20 hours you could easily complete most other single player games. Seriously what the hell were they thinking!10. Prologue – Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 is one of our favorite RPGs of all time but boy does it start off slow. The game goes on for two freaking hours before it’ll hand over any significant control to the player. All you are able to do up until then is press X from time to time. It’s one of the more interesting stories in the genre so the time isn’t totally wasted. However it would be nice to gain some sweet freedom before your hair starts turning gray. But please don’t let the lengthy intro stop you from playing this all-time classic.Which opening sequence frustrated you the most? Let us know in the comments! game | Classic Game Room DARK SOULS review

Classic Game Room DARK SOULS review

Dark Souls review. Classic Game Room reviews DARK SOULS for Xbox 360 (also available for Playstation 3 PS3) from BanDai and the team behind Demon's Souls. Dark Souls is a challenging game from the makers of the ultra-cool Demon's Souls and features many of the same gameplay features like losing your experience (souls) when you die and giving the player the chance to reclaim them. This CGR Dark Souls video review shows gameplay from the Xbox 360 version of Dark Souls published by Ban Dai (also available for PS3) which features HD game play of combat and some of the many features in this deep JRPG action adventure. Deep tactics, intense combat and difficult end bosses provide a brutal challenge and rewarding adventure for those up to the task. Those looking for more of a casual RPG adventure with hack and slash combat or turn based combat sould look elsewhere.

game | 10 things that will make you love the Persona series

10 things that will make you love the Persona series

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 was one of the best, if not THE best role playing games on the PS2. But this release happened almost a decade ago and with Persona 5 just around the corner, we would like to remind you how great the Persona series is. Started as a spin-off The Persona series is actually a spin-off from the Megami Tensei series. The 1996 Playstation 1 release of Revelations: Persona took place at a school that was also seen in Shin Megami Tensei If… But from that point forward each of the games has had a story of its own, Modern day Japan Where most RPGs use a fantasy setting, the Persona series takes place in modern day Japan. But this version of our world is infused with mythology and the occult. Each of the stories take place in a different part of the country, but the central location is always a school. Serious themes The stories in Persona are pretty deep and can get dark at times. Each of the characters are flawed in some way and during the game their dark story will slowly unravel. Many social issues are brought up, ranging from loss, fear and trauma to LGBT issues and depression. The social elements in the game world really play an important role. School kid during the day Every game in the Persona series is about school kids and their troubles and the story takes place over the period of one school year. Life at school is just as an important part of the games as combat is. You need to complete tests and learn some skills that way, but you also need to form social bonds with other kidsDungeon crawler at night The other major element of the series is dungeon crawling. When it comes to its gameplay, the Persona series has always been quite traditional. Ever since the first release over 20 years ago, combat has been a turn based affair. The first two games in the series used random encounters, which was replaced by models representing enemy groups in the later games. Personamon The aspect that really makes the Persona series stand out from the crowd, are the Persona. These spirits can be leveled up and help you in a fight. You can also fuse Persona together, resulting in a more powerful persona that also gets new powers.Summoning Persona The way you summon Persona is always a bit twisted. In Persona 3 you had to fake a suicide by putting a gun against your head. In Persona 4 you would summon the Persona using tarot cards as if they are some sort of demons. And in Persona 5 you rip your own face off like Nicholas Cage and reveal your Persona that way. Lighthearted Persona is not all serious business though. The series offers enough room for funny situations. For example when the boys walked into the girl at the hot springs in Persona 4 Golden. Or the time the group got together in a club and played the King’s Game. Or that time when Teddie crowd surfed and the rest failed miserably. Velvet Room A central part of each of the Persona games, is the so called Velvet Room. This room does not exist in the real world version of Tokyo, but it’s a location that is between the conscious and the unconscious… almost like it only exists in your mind. This Velvet Room serves has a Quest Hub, but it looks different in every game.Great music Even though the music in the Persona series is created by multiple composers, Shoji Meguro is the one who is most associated with the series. Persona 2 is the only game he wasn’t involved with. But he did become the music director on the PSP releases of Persona 2 Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. Persona 5 is the newest game in the series and it’s available on the Playstation 3 and Playstation 4. This "spiritual" third installment in the Parasite Eve series has players taking control of Aya who takes control of soldiers by Overdiving into them and fighting giant monsters! While technically not part of the Parasite Eve series, fans of the series may dig this installment although, admittedly, the main protagonist is shallow and fairly uninteresting. The 3rd Birthday PSP gameplay is awesome and plays like a breeze with a single analog stick and the triggers. Upgrade weapons, Aya and your clothing as you play (and watch her clothes fall off) through the game and battle giant tentacle things and spawning monsters that explode when you kill them. Classic Game Room FALLOUT NEW VEGAS review

Classic Game Room reviews FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS for Playstation 3 PS3 (also available for Xbox 360 and PC). Fallout New Vegas is very similar to Fallout 3 in many respects except that it takes place in the Western United States in and around Las Vegas which is now called New Vegas. All new enemies and crazy characters await like the Legion, Caesar, The New California Republic and Mr. House. Why was your character shot and buried alive only to be dug up by a robot? How many fun things can you do with a flamethrower in New Vegas? (lots) Fans of Fallout will most likely enjoy Fallout New Vegas gameplay but don't expect anything drastically different from Fallout 3. Wandering deserts, burned out buildings and dark spaces while shooting enemies with an awesome array of weapons is par for the course. This CGR review of Fallout New Vegas has Fallout New Vegas gameplay showing Fallout New Vegas game play footage during a video review of Fallout New Vegas for PS3 Xbox 360.
