http:www.PatrickScottPatterson.com - Since the first of these clips for the Star Wars arcade game drew good traffic (watch it here: http:www.youtube.comwatch?v=uv34R2dBy6Y) I've pulled another clip from the Vault. Here's another clip where former teen idol Bobby Sherman shows a preview of an upcoming arcade video game from the short-lived show "The Video Game Challenge"This time it's Journey from Bally Midway, based on the band of the same name. A camera had been invented that could scan and post digitized faces on a video game screen. Originally intended for high score tables, the concept was scratched when someone mooned the game camera during an arcade test. The technology was used instead to insert digitized faces of the members of Journey into this video game. The game failed to really catch on due to a saturated video game business that was in decline quickly when it was released. Shortly after it came out Bally Midway actually offered factory rebates to operators who bought the machine... and later on even free copies of older arcade titles.

game | Arcade Game Journey 1983 Midway

Arcade Game Journey 1983 Midway

A mazeplatform game where 5 rock musicians travel through the galaxy to retrieve their musical instruments from 5 planets. After they have been retrieved, they perform their hit song at the concert. 1st PLANET - Microphone : Steve Perry must pass between the turnstiles without touching them, get his microphone, and shoot his way back to the Scarab. The background song for this scene is 'Don't Stop Believing'. 2nd PLANET - Bass : Here, Ross Valory must leap onto the elevating pedestals, timing his assent to grab his bass as it passes by him at the top of the screen, and shoot his way back to the Scarab. The song played in the background here is 'Keep On Running'. 3rd PLANET - Keyboard : Here, Jonathan Cain must leap the moving conveyor belt ridges without being touched to reach his keyboard and then must shoot his way back to the Scarab. The background song here is 'Stone in Love'. 4th PLANET - Guitar : With his jet pack, Neal Schon must traverse the dangerous passages in this cavern to finally retrieve his guitar and then fight his way back to the Scarab. 'Chain Reaction' plays in the background here. 5th PLANET - Drums : Steve Smith must jump from drum-head to drum-head, landing on all of them at least once in order to reach his drums. He then must shoot his way back to the Scarab. 'Wheel in the Sky' is the background song here. This was the world's first commercial video game to have graphics using photographs of people known as digitized sprites. The band members' pictures were taken by Ralph Baer (a father of home video game console who released magnovoxx odyssey, the world's first game console).Journey, the arcade game is not nearly as good as other arcade game with musicians such as Aerosmith's Revolution X or Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. I prefer to play those arcade games than this.

game | Journey The Band Arcade game from 1983

Journey The Band Arcade game from 1983

Came across this game in MAME, its a bit mental. Info: Released in March 1983. Used digitized faces of the band members, photographed with a camera designed by Ralph Baer, father of the home video game console. The machine contained a tape loop of the song 'Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)' in the concert scene at the end of each level. Rushed through the 1982 Christmas holidays by the Marvin Glass & Associates because BallyMidway wanted the game to coincide with the release of the band's Frontiers album. They took all the images of the band backstage at a Salt Lake City concert. There was talk of using the game as part of the road show, but that fell through. The story about the idea of players being able to take photos of their own face being dropped due to their taking pictures of certain body parts did not occur with this game, but with an earlier prototype called Clone. That game was dropped but when Baer heard about Journey, he saw a new opportunity to use his digitizing camera technology. The background music includes the Journey songs : 'Chain Reaction', 'Don't Stop Believin', 'Lights', 'Keep On Running', 'Stone In Love' and 'Wheel In The Sky'. A mishap on a planet will result in the playing of a small sample of 'Who's Crying Now'. Outside of this game, the Scarab vehicle appears in the front cover of the band's 'Escape' album, released in 1981. The giant head that appears in the attract mode's title sequence (and the Scarab flies into at the beginning of the game) is from the front cover of the band's 'Frontiers' album, released in 1983 (the same year this game was released). The logo on the marquee is the same logo as on the front of the 'Frontiers' album. This logo is identical to that of the Magnavox Odyssey2 video game console released in 1978. .

game | TRON ARCADE GAME 1982 BALLY MIDWAY retro oldskool video game

TRON ARCADE GAME 1982 BALLY MIDWAY retro oldskool video game

Sorry - sound is not optimal. Tron is an arcade video game manufactured and distributed by Bally Midway in 1982. It is based on the Walt Disney Productions motion picture Tron released in the same year. Events from this science fiction film were the inspirations for four subgames of which the game consists. It features some characters and equipment known from the film, eg the Light Cycles, battle tanks, the InputOutput Tower. The game earned more than the film's initial release. The player in the role of Tron has to beat four subgames, each at 12 increasingly difficult levels. All four segments of one level must be completed before continuing with the next level.

game | Fast Freddie Atari, 1982 301,690 pts MAME

Fast Freddie Atari, 1982 301,690 pts MAME

http:retrogamedemos.com for more classic gaming A playthrough of Atari's Fast Freddie (aka Fly-boy), a less well-known game in the "cute" style of 1982. I have some fond memories of playing it back in the 'eighties, not so much from choice but because it happened to be the only cabinet around. Fast Freddie is a small boy who must hang glide his way over the Alps, across the South Pacific, and through Eastern landscapes of the Arabian Nights, and still be home in time for tea (or he's in trouble with his Mum). It's a simple concept and fun to play. Baddies want to knock him out of the sky, but Freddie has a defence: he can kick downwards for a limited time (until his shins start to chafe on helicopter rotors etc.). To liven things up, collect hazardously-placed flags to spell BONUS for a generous helping of extra points (up to 25,000).The game is quite hard beyond the first level, and it's maddening when you die. I swear there's actual physical feedback from the abrupt "karate chop" effect, and death seems to occur for the flimsiest reasons. It's one of those games where all the odds seem stacked against you. A shame, because with a bit more attention to detail Fast Freddie could have been the next Frogger or Donkey Kong. There are three landscapes, repeated three times with increasing difficulty. After that the whole game repeats from scratch. Given that I die twice here, but earn ten bonus lives, it's easy to work out you can play forever. In this run I stick to just the nine unique levels, and get the maximum bonus on the first seven. The last two bonuses may well be impossible. At least I like to think they are because it's more than my sanity's worth to try for them.
