I've had a weekend filled to the brim with classic arcade action, so it felt like the ideal time to share some memories, some feelings, looking back on what made arcades special in the 80s and early 90s. As well as visiting The Arcade Club in Bury, Greater Manchester, I popped along to the #PrimarkArcade and gained some insights from Jon Stoodley - the Pacman world record holder - achieving the perfect game. Under the hood lurks a potent Pentium 100Mhz, along with a Soundblaster (clone), TV card and even a modem. What Happened to Cyrix Processors? Nostalgia Nerd

Intel vs AMD? Forget it. The processor wars of the 90s are almost as legendary as Sega vs. Nintendo or Amiga vs. Atari. While Intel was improving the 386 and 486, competitors popped up like AMD and Cyrix, leaving Intel with a lot more competition on their hands than today, and various lawsuits followed along the way. These companies were dedicated to overtaking Intel in the processor race, and when Intel jumped to the Pentium, Cyrix and AMD weren't far behind with 5x86 and 6x86 processor iterations (AMD with their K6). This video will explore the whole Cyrix story, from their setup to their unfortunate demise. Along the way I'll ask the important question; Did Quake kill off Cyrix? Was it the undoing of an entire processor designer?.... It's a question which has basis in the Cyrix 686 processor's poor FPU performance and John Carmack's coding which leaned heavily on Intel FPU design. But it might not be the only reason why this silicon chip designer bit the bullet. This is an era where it wasn't just Intel vs AMD, or a simple price vs performance war. This was an era of Intel vs AMD vs Cyrix vs IDT, and for me, having lived through it, it's absolutely fascinating. Sit back and witness glorious CPUs like the Cyrix 5x86, the 6x86, the MediaGX and the MII series. Along with early math co-processors that helped to make early x86 machines fly father than an IBM blue lightning chip set.** For exclusive videos, mystery boxes and other rewards, please consider supporting me at; https:www.patreon.comnostalgianerd?ty=h **☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! How the Sega Dreamcast Copy Protection Worked And how it Failed MVG

Did you know that the Sega Dreamcast had very sophisticated copy protection? I didn't either. But its true. The Dreamcast had excellent security measures in place. With the custom GD-ROM format that was not readable by any consumer PC CD and DVD drives at the time it seemed that the Dreamcast would be safe from haackers. That is until one fatal mistake caused the complete breakdown of the security measures. And ultimately some say was part of the cause for the demise of the Sega Dreamcast. The LED Traffic Light and the Danger of But Sometimes!

You can support this channel on Patreon! Link below Around the mid-2000’s, the LED traffic light began making its way onto the scene. Recent developments in LED technology meant that energy efficient replacements for the standard incandescent lamp were beginning to appear. Municipalities rejoiced with the energy savings they provided, but in cold climates they weren’t met with quite as warm a welcome. Not producing sufficient heat to melt snow on their lenses, some drivers became confused by ambiguous signals and caused fatal accidents. This video tells the tale of why this newfound “problem” generated harsh criticism to the new technology, and explains why this reaction is entirely dumb and regressive.Watch me take apart one of these traffic light modules here: https:youtu.behRbnK4cDXPYYou can support this channel on Patreon! Sinclair ZX Spectrum Story Birth of a Classic Nostalgia Nerd

The ZX Spectrum is 35 years old on 23rd April 2017, and it also holds a very special place in my heart, so it's time to wish it a happy birthday... It's the machine I grew up with and which led me to creating this very channel. I've covered the Sinclair ZX Spectrum in the past, but frankly I didn't do it justice, so we're revisiting Sir Clive's iconic 8 bit home micro in detail, starting with The Sinclair Years in this two part documentary. This first part explores Clive Sinclair's early years, from his childhood to the formation of Sinclair Radionics in 1961, through the mini amplifier period, pocket calculator, black watch and finally his range of computers, starting with the MK14 and culminating in the ZX Spectrum 128k. We'll look at the people involved behind the Spectrum such as Jim Westwood and Chris Curry and explore other avenues such as the famous punch up between Clive and Chris in a Cambridge pub. So hold on tight, and let's get cracking with Jet Set F**king Willy. Many thanks to Ashens https:www.youtube.comuserashens and Slopes Game Room https:www.youtube.comuserdjslopesroom for their voices.☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! What is MMX Technology Why Was it Flawed? Byte Size Nostalgia Nerd

PCs in the late 90s would most likely have been blessed with the terms MMX Processors. Pentium MMX, Pentium II MMX. For in 1997, Intel's MMX technology was all the rage, and the latest processor technology. If you didn't have an Intel processor with MMX extensions (or a Cyrix or AMD who quickly jumped on the wagon, much to Intel's displeasure) then you were about to fall behind the crowd, especially in terms of this new multimedia thing. CD-ROM based software needed some extra grunt and the source of this, according to Intel, would come from 57 new extensions encoded into their latest range of chips. However, in some cases it came at a cost to performance. Find out what that cost was and how MMX developed into something more useful with the Pentium II range of CPUs.☟Subcribe☟ https:www.youtube.comusernostalgianerdvideos?sub_confirmation=1✊Please Consider Supporting Me! ✊ Patreon: https:www.patreon.comnostalgianerd?ty=h Visit my eBay Shop: http:ebay.to1QQpYyy Buy From Amazon (affiliate): http:amzn.to1OzCQWR★Nerd Social★ Twitter: http:www.twitter.comnostalnerd Face: http:www.facebook.comnostalnerd Instagram: http:www.instagram.comnostalgianerd Web: http:www.nostalgianerd.com★Equipment★ Nikon D3200 with 40mm Macro Corel Video Studio Ultimate X7 Corel Paint Shop Pro X6 Blue Snowball Microphone♜Resources♜ BG Music is from Snowkitten: Track 1: Cheilith Track 2: Ethosien Track 3: Hexteria Available to buy from Bandcamp https:snowkitten.bandcamp.comalbummiresaImages courtesy of WikipediaWikimediaProgram at 3:00 is Children's BBC classic, BerthaGame at 4:10 is Pod. 80s aesthetic Racers Nostalgia Nerd

The 80s. What a time to be alive. A time filled with neon aesthetic, big hair, loud cars and 80s racing games. Well, it seems a resurgence of those times has come about lately, both in recreating the racing game styles of the time, and the exaggerated glowing look, that we all know and love. Having stumbled across 7 modern racers which seem to be pulled directly from the 80s, I decided to play and review each one for your approval.Games included, and their purchase links; Horizon Chase Turbo: https:www.g2a.comrhorizonchase Slipstream: https:www.g2a.comrsstream Super Night Riders: https:store.steampowered.comapp444000Super_Night_Riders Outdrive: https:www.g2a.comroutdrve Neon Drive: https:www.g2a.comrneondrive Razortron 2000: https:www.g2a.comrrazortron My 1980's Dashboard: https:store.steampowered.comapp786630MY_1980s_DASHBOARD** For exclusive videos, mystery boxes and other rewards, please consider supporting me at; https:www.patreon.comnostalgianerd **☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! INCREDIBLE 90s Racing Simulation Accessories Nostalgia Nerd

Welcome to the 90s, a time when gaming & computer accessories aimed to do one thing; MAKE GAMES MORE REALISTIC. More often than not, all they did was make games more crap. In this video I'm looking at two main items; The SpectraVision Logic3 FreeWheel AND the QuickJoy SV-129 Footpedals, combined with Nigel Mansell's World Champsionship racing. This POWER trio should make one hell of an unbeatable driving simulation experience.
